Your Morning Fuel

I’m a coffee guy but I have recently been throwing tea into the mix and before recently I was a breakfast skipper.  Now I am into all sorts of trials to gain a better understanding of what fuels me best.  For you it could be any of these things, a jog or morning yoga.  Whatever gets you going is best for you.  Just don’t forget how important it is to get off on the right foot each morning.  When you feel good you accomplish more.

How do you make it happen each day?

Best of luck,

The Road To Success

I heard some great advice this morning about getting from point A to point B.  What we have all learned, geometrically speaking, is that the fastest way between these two points is a straight line.  Well, that is probably true for about 1% of all situations.  In life the fastest way and often only way toward real success is going to be a squiggly line, or at the very least a line that bends.  Let me explain: In order to get where you want to eventually be you will hit snags, make mistakes and get diverted off course, and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  These snags, mistakes and redirections will help you redefine your goals and your route toward getting there.  In the end you will learn more from these kinks in your “straight line” and your end product will be a lot more defined, refined and fool proof.

So go ahead pave your path but don’t be afraid to take a wrong turn every once in a while.  And by all means, feel comfortable to ask for directions along the way.

Best of luck,

Dress Like Your Boss’s Boss

Dress like your boss’s boss.  Why?  Because it matters.  Of course we don’t mean you need to be wearing the latest tailored Zenga suits, or $675 Prada shoes (this goes for you too ladies!) but what we do mean is that your look is incredibly important in how you are received.  This goes beyond your actual attire during the day.  So take the time in the morning to look your best.  This may mean staying in and getting a little bit more rest on a nightly basis, and it certainly could mean skipping a few drinks at the client lunch.  If you want to command the presence and respect you think you deserve, do your part to deserve it.  Don’t look sloppy, unshaven or hungover because there are going to be last minute meetings that can make a career, and you certainly don’t know who you might end up standing next to in the elevator.  A sharp looking employee might not always get noticed, but a sloppy one is sure to be on somebody’s radar…

Best of luck,

You Are Your Most Important Partner

Always remember you are your most important partner. As cliche as it may sound, allow yourself “me” time. Take a long walk outside or take a drive, collect your thoughts and understand how you’re feeling. This will help you to stay on track and will keep you moving in the right direction. Get to know yourself better so that you gain confidence and believe in yourself. This investment in yourself is one of the most important in business and in life.
Best of luck,

Weekend Thinking

It’s the weekend but don’t turn your brain off.  It is a great time to meet with friends and see what they are up to.  You might hear things that inspire you to take action or you can stumble upon a new great idea.

It’s important to remember to have fun regardless.  It will keep you on your game and some of the best ideas are borne over a few beers with friends.

Best of luck,

Loyalty & Reputation Stick With You

Early on in my career I got some great advice from a mentor.  He told me, “Be loyal to people, not companies.  Company’s will come and go, be bought and sold, but in the end no company ever had a loyalty toward you”.  What was meant by this was that the important thing to remember is the people behind these companies.  As many of you may have already noticed, the industry you work in is small.  As your career progresses you begin to notice this even more.  Your loyalty to those great people as well as your reputation will follow you throughout your career no matter what company you work for.

So as you take each step in your career and grasp each rung of the corporate ladder, stop and think for a moment about the people who helped get you there.  Be loyal to those people, remember those people, and constantly maintain your good reputation.  You’ll be a better leader in that way, and a better person.

Best of luck,

Goal setting is inspirational

Ever see something that you wanted but you couldn’t have?  Of course you have, everyone has.  Well here is a bit of advice, write it down.  Keep track of those things that you one day want to have.  For me I always had this idea of a home office.  I used to go to my friends big houses and see that their dad or mom had this great home office with a desk and bookshelves, the works.  I thought it would be great to have this room in my own house.  One day I will have a house with a home office and I write down my ideas for how I want it to look all the time.  This keeps me on my feet and each day I try to get one step closer to checking off this box on my list.  What is your inspirational item?

Best of luck –

Why You Should Make a Change

What you will learn right away from this blog is that you can learn a lot from short simple sentences.  I mean look how much Ernest Hemingway accomplished doing just that thing.  Well, what I mean is that this blog isn’t going to overload you with information or statistics.  What it will do is get you thinking about your future, and how to make it more prosperous.

So with that being said, this post is entitled “Why you should make a change”.  This can go for anything, but for me what it meant was that I was in a job where I knew I needed to be doing more, doing something different.  If you wake up in the morning dreading the day something is wrong!  Do something about it, it is that simple.  Look for other jobs, go back to school, study what makes you tick and see how you can incorporate that into your dream job.

Want to make money and be successful?  Start by getting into a job that you wake up somewhat rearing to go to.  You’ll work harder, make less mistakes and eventually make more money this way.

The hardest part in all this is getting the courage to make a change but with enough support from your family, friends and most of all yourself, you will have no problem getting where you want to be.
